Third Student Exchange Programme with
Shida Fuzhong (Affiliated High School of Yunnan Normal
University), Kunming, China 2012
To strengthen Indo-China bilateral ties, leaders of both
nations - President Hu Jingtao and Prime Minister Manmohan
Singh met and declared year 2012, a year of Indo-China
friendship and cooperation. Both leaders have unveiled
initiatives to boost cooperation and mutual understanding.
St. Xavier's Collegiate School, Kolkata, India and Shida
Fuzhong High School, Kunming China have also contributed in
strengthening and cementing this bond of friendship between
the two countries.
Seventeenth November, two thousand and twelve at eleven
forty twelve Chinese delegates disembarked from flight China
Eastern in their maiden visit to India. A small step for man
but a huge step for mankind! The Xaverian students under the
able leadership of Fr.Peter Arockiam s.j, Vice Principal,
Mr.Farino Torcato and Mr.Siddhartha Das waited eagerly to
welcome their Chinese brothers home. Hosting the Chinese
students in the houses of the Indian students was an
integral part of the student exchange programme between
Shida Fuzhong School, Kunming, China and St. Xavier's
Collegiate School, Kolkata, India. The Chinese delegates
were led by Mr. Yang Yong, the vice principal, Mr.Li Yue, Ms
Shu Hong and Ms Shi Rui, teachers of the school.
These Chinese students stayed in the houses of the St.
Xavier's students for a period of 10 days and had a first
hand experience of Indian Culture. The great benchmark of
this exchange programme is how the Xaverians created a home
far away from home for their Chinese brothers.
To quote Li Yutang "A strong determination is to get
the best out of life, a keen desire is to enjoy what one
has, and no regrets if anyone fails." This is the
secret of the Chinese genius to contentment.
